Re: lease

You should review your lease and see what it says concerning your rights to sublease your space or to terminate the lease early. An attorney can do this for you and at the same time, see if there are any legal grounds to invalidate the lease. Your attorney can talk to your landlord on your behalf, to see if the terms of the lease can be modified given your current financial situation. Whatever you do, however, should be done soon. If you fall too far behind on your rent, and the landlord has to begin eviction proceedings, it will be far more difficult to work out an arrangement. Furthermore, your personal credit rating will be hurt. Feel free to call my office if you would like to discuss this matter further.

Re: lease

I agree with Randy on what are your alternatives. From my experience, a Landlord may be willing to abate or lower rent to keep a tenant and/or work with the tenant to keep a store occupied.
