Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
I purchased a vehicle form a private business,misplaced the title the previous owner got a duplicate for me without telling me he would charge $300 for it. I have found the original but motor vehicles will not accept it because a later title was issued.do I have any options

Did you give a Power of Attorney to the previous owner to procure the duplicate? If not, Motor Vehicle Services had no basis to issue one to them. Regardless, why don't you just request another duplicate title from Motor Vehicle Services? You are the owner so should obviously be entitled to it. Then you will have your title and the prior duplicate (obtained by the prior owner) will become void just as the first one was.
