To paraphrase H.L. Mencken, For every question, there is an answer that is simple, neat and wrong. --- Surely, a reasonably meaningful answer to any legal question cannot be given based upon a brief email exchange. That said, the first question that must be addressed is whether the "offer letter" created any legal enforceable rights. Assuming it did, the next step is determined what those rights are and the potential remedies available. Then, potential strategies for avoiding liability can be identified, evaluated and, if appropriate, implemented. I routinely handle such matter and would be happy to speak with you. Please call me at 973-921-0600 if youd like to have a free initial telephone consultation or learn more about me or my practice. Thank you.

Kindly note and remember that my response is merely a general comment on the law related to your question, and NOT legal advice or opinion. Also, your question and my response does NOT create an attorney-client relationship between us. You cannot rely upon what I have written, because I do not have all of the information that I need to advise you or render an opinion. Even simple facts you have not shared can completely change my answer. For me to give you legal advice or opinion, you would need to hire me to be your lawyer, and then we would need to discuss this in detail and go over the documents.

In a more succinct answer, even though it's called an "offer letter" it might in fact be an employment contract and by breaching the contract you might be creating liabilities for yourself and damages for the company.

Realistically, the letter and circumstances need to be reviewed. Generally such a review is not expensive. Contact me directly.
