Small businesses

My husband is currently partners with someone in a small home improvement business. He just found out that his partner is stealing money. My husband would like to get out of this business all together. How does he go about removing his name from this business?

You have not indicated whether this is a corporation, a partnership or a limited liability company. I would have different answers, depending on the form of the business.
