Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
I'm starting an internet radio broadcast and the hosting service that I will be dealing with is licensed with the major music organizations in which they pay royalties to. For a monthly fee I am too covered for all music that I broadcast through my stream. Aside playing major artist I would like to play local artist as well. My question is would it be legal to charge music submitter to help cover the monthly fees?

When payments are accepted by broadcast stations in connection with playing music, the sponorship must be announced or the practice is unlawful under 47 USC 317. (Google "payola".) Research on the extent to which the FCC broadcast station regulations apply to music "broadcast" over the Internet would require some research. BTW, I would be very cautious about this service that you are paying unless you have verified their authority to grant the licenses. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
