Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

terninating a car lease

I was diagnosed with breast cancer June 2004 and have had a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. I returned to work as an RN in January 2005 and found it phsically draining. I worked per-diem from full time and my work never called me for perdiem work. I ended up resigning in April. I then took a positon that is 1/3 of what I was making as a nurse. My question is, one month before I was diagnosedwith brest cancer I leased a car that I no longer can affordd. My lease ends August 2007. Is there anything I can do to get out of this contract so it won't affect my credit? Thankyou

There is not much help for you from the law. Your disability does not change the fact of the debt and your obligation to pay.

That said, the lessor may be willing to work with you as a matter of customer relations. You should also take a close look at your lease or have your lawyer to do that to satisfy yourself that there are no escapes available there.
