Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

My daughter was charge with aggravated assault on a security officer at school. However the story from the principal and what is in the police report are different. The principal has lied to me on several occassions. When my husband and I asked about viewing the video of the assault he first told us that he didn't know if there were cameras on that hall. He then later informed me that he requested information for a video and had in fact spoke to the person in charge of the security cameras the day of the incident. I asked him why he lead us to beleive that there were not cameras on that hall and he then stated he didn't remember if he requested security camera information the day of the incident or after we left his office. Of course he called me later to inform me that the cameras were not working and that is it very well documented that they have not been working for some time. I feel the school is covering for the security officer and that the security officer's treatment of my child was not warranted as we are being lead to believe. The principal stated my child had a pencil in her hand holding it in a threatening manner but it is not stated in the police complaint that officer filed. I feel the principal is lying to protect the officer and I would like to sue.
