Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey
I have been employed at my current job for nearly 17 years. With the current recession and budget cuts we are all being asked to do more for/with less. In recent years I have been asked to assume the duties of more highly compensated workers (compensated $20k to $30 more) yet I have not received a raise or promotion to date. The duties of the higher compensated employees have always been classified as their job description but just recently written into mine. I have filed numerous complaints, grievances and re-classification requests but to no avail. There are even instances where caucasion workers have been promoted into the very same title I have without the same tenure or experience. What I would like to know is: Do I have the right to file suit, and if so, should I file it as a Civil Rights case or under the recently signed Lilly Ledbetter Act?
