Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

Family law or civil law?

My mother has been diagnosed with a mental health condition. She is on medications and sees a psychiatrist. She is also under a court order to participate in a government program. She has continually expressed her desire to come live with me.

She has not been allowed. She lives with an untrustworthy relative. This relative wants to purchase burial insurance for my mother in her name!

I need help to protect my mother's interests and rights. She poses no danger to anyone. She has no voice or say. She is ignored. I am her only child.

I do not understand why she cannot come to live with me. What can I do? Which kind of attorney is required? Does it matter whether I hire the attorney here in MD or NJ? What are her rights? I can't help but feel that they are being violated.

Re: Family law or civil law?

If you are an adult, you can apply to become her guardian. It would be best to have NJ counsel. You would file your petition in the county where your mother currently resides.
