Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

Harrasment

I have a neighbor who is 87 years old. I took him to court because for the last couple of years he has been cursing at my kids, running after my 10 year old with a pocket knife, and finally, he pushed my husband and has been harassing and bothering my three sons for the last couple of years. He did get fined, and when the judge asked him, what should we do about the problem, he said, ''I'll shoot them.''

This was last summer. The winter I didn't really see him, but now that it is nice out he is at his door looking for trouble. I had to park my truck in front of his house, because my son was playing in the driveway. I usually park in driveway but my son was playing. He then came out calling me an F-ing racial slur and telling me to move my truck.

I am going to lose my mind. The man is old and he lives for antagonizing my family and I. Is there any recourse I can take against him? Obviously, the fine he received from the Court did no good. The houses are close where I live and he lives right next door, but my kids are entitled to be outside and play without being mentally abused all the time by him.

Re: Harrasment

The best course of action is to go to the police station and file another complaint. It may violate the judge's previous court order, which in and of itself is a crime. The police officer or clerk may require you to pursue it as a private citizen complaint. In that event, you are likely to get the most effective result hiring an attorney to serve as a private prosecutor. If you would like additional information, please contact me.
