Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey
internet intmadtion
i had an aol screenname and posted a sexually explicit profile. an aol member imed me and we chatted, he asked me to meet him and i agreed only to back out at the last minute. he again asked me to meet him at a motel in a nearby town. i agreed again and he paid 100.00 for a room but i never showed up. i text messaged him from my cellphone and he got mad at me and is now threatening to send my cellnumber out on the internet along with the ims we exchanged and the text message i sent to him. he is claiming that if i dont meet him by monday of this coming week he will release the info on the internet. i was wondering if he can legally do this since i never met him. he also called my cell a number of times and left messages on my voice mail but i erased the messages and didnt know to keep the ims. he is also threatening to go to the newspaper about this. how can i stop him. i blocked himfrom iming me and dont answer the cell when he calls me. i am going to change my cell number this week. i am scared he will find out my name and address from my cell number can he find me thru a cell number. what can i do to protect myself.

Re: internet intmadtion
You need to go to the police right away. The man is definitely harassing you which is a criminal offense (petty disorderly persons.) You could also chose to file a private complaint in municipal court. The police would be able to find out he was by issuing a subpoeans to the internet web-site host. If he does find out where you live, he may stalk you so I would file a report right away. You may be able to file a restraining order against him if the court determines you were in a "dating relatioship." With regard to releasing your information to the newspapers and on-line, you would be able to sue him personally for invasion of privacy. Please contact me if you wish to discuss your case further.
