Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

A new jersey state employee has stolen my wife social security # and used it to file federal returns he has also done this to more than 1000 people in this state. we are not getting help from anyone to fix this. I want to know if the state should be hld liable for noy protecting us or notifing us after his arrest.

The short answer to your question is it depends, and it depends on a lot of variables. There may be a chance you can recover from the state for your loss, but based upon the scanty information you have provided, it is impossible to say. But you certainly should follow up with an attorney experienced in pursuing claims under the Tort Claims Act, which is an act providing broad immunity to the state and its employees.
