Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

My wife has been accused of stealing a piece of jewelry from a neighbors home while she taking care of their dog. She has not been formally charged and the case is still pending. The neighbors have gone throughout the town to everyone we know and the parents of my childrens friends and told them about this and continue to bad mouth us to everyone. Some parents now forbid their kids from playing with our kids and we have decided to move out of our home. Are there any tort laws against this type of behavior since my wife has not been found guilty of anything and this has caused us a huge amount of stress and my wife has become emotionally unstable? Please advise

First, if charges may be filed, you should "lawyer up" now and start putting together the defense of the charges. This is classic defamation, but you have to handle this the right way. Call me at 732/773/2768 to discuss further.
