Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey

internet check scams

i fell for a scam from a ''company'' that emailed me, now i am told that i am responsible for it. i was just wondering if there is any information for the person (me) who fell for the scam. it was a check cashing scam, that i seemd legit but i looked into it and the company seemed real, now there web site is gone and i have the police and the check cashing place calling me to make restitution. i was told if i let it go to court it will cost me more, but i am not sure if i can afford to pay what they want me to pay weekly, i have never done anything this stupid before in my life and now i do not know what to do.i am affraid of the consiquences. please let me know.

Re: internet check scams

You should at least let a lawyer look at your situation. Many people will tell you what to expect from a court appearance not for your benefit, but for theirs. An opposing party is the last person from whom you should be taking legal advice.

Your question seems to show an understanding that you will have to repay something. If you were duped by these people, it is likely that a judge will at least understand that and allow you to make restitution over time.

Try the lawyers that list here as practicing in municipal court in your area.
