Parents rights concerning Division of youth and family services in New Jersey
My family and I have recently become involved with the division of youth and family services in New Jersey.
I am at my wits end because I feel they are misusing thier
power and threatining me and my husband. we had a domestic dispute and I reported it to the police thinking I was being on the safe side of things and if needed I would have a police report to fall back on if needed. The police immediatly called dyfs and dyfs should up on my doorstep with a police escort( 3 police cars) They told us if we didn't cooperate she would be taking the kids. I have 3 boys ages 10, 11, 17. I love my children and they love me and thier Dad. I feel I have made a mistake in trusting the police and will never call them again for fear my kids will be taken. Dyfus has bought up a achohol problem that I had more then 10 years ago. There was no achohol involved
in the dispute my husband and I had. They are forcing me to have an alchol evaluation. I have no problem with that as I do not drink. But passed experience tells me even if I say I don't drink they'll tell me I am in denial. What can I do?

DYFS is nothing to mess with. They have enormous power and can make your life a living hell. I agree that hiring an attorney before things get out of control is a good idea. In the meantime, say as little as possible, while being pleasant and cooperative - not an easy thing to do when someone is threatening to take the children.
Best of Luck,

You need to hire an attorney to scare DYFS away. It appears as iff they are looking for something wrong in the house. They will interview the children and friend to make a determination if the children are safe at home. God forbid they determine they are not safe, they have the power to take the children and place them in foster care. You need someone right away to protect your rights.
