Legal Question in Constitutional Law in New Jersey
Taking of Personal Weapon
Q: Does a police department have the right or authority to withhold a police officer's personal weapons and deny him a replacement firearms identification card when the officer has not committed any violations of criminal law which would otherwise disqualify a citizen from bearing and keeping arms? Also, would such a seizure be lawful absent justification although they acted on ''policy''?

Clearly there's more to your story than that, so you'll have to repost to the BBS and give more details before someone can help you.
