Landscaping lein
How can a landscaper get a lein on my house I'm building when I sent a letter terminating our relationship
because his contract I signed said he would start (designs etc.) within six weeks from Oct 10th 2006. To date I have received nothing, only a prelimanary drawing in Nov. I paid $500. Now he's threathening to place a lein on the house which will prevent me from getting a draw from the bank. How can he do that? What can I do?

If the contractor has done no labor at the site nor used any materials there, then his lien is invalid. A lawyer who does construction law work will be able to find out more facts from you in order to tell the best way to have the lien vacated. Meanwhile, the bank will be understanding as long as they know that you are doing something about the problem.
