Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey
i recently sent a notice of unpaid balance of intent to lien to a customer that owe's me money for materials and services. job complete. i just got a response from their lawyer saying that their client says to commence with the court proceedings to file the lien. does this mean he thinks i don't have a chance in hell in getting my money because having a lien on his property does'nt mean a thing to him. this is a commercial property and the amount owed to me is $2000.

Who knows what it means. File the lien, then file suit within 1 year of the date the work was completed. Best to file ASAP. Make sure all your paperwork is 99.9% right, that you have a proper contract and CO for any additional work claimed in the lien, and that you do not overstate the claim, or they can demand you remove the lien, or do it themselves and make you pay for their attorney's fees !!!
