Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey
We signed a contract with a contractor to redue our bathroom for $4500.00. We gave him $1500 first installment. He began the work by gutting and bringing in a guy to do plumbing. In the process, the plumber put his leg through the floor causing a big hole. Once they fixed that they proceeded to put the floor and tub in. Then another guy went to put the final floor down, he put a nail through the plumbing, which than began to leak through the fixed ceiling. They had to take out the set in tub and rip up the flooring to fix the plumbing. By doing so that chipped one corner of the tub and cracked the other end of it. When we noticed this, we contacted them and let them know about the tub. The contractor got really mad and that was the last time we heard from him about a month ago. We have been trying to contact him ever since, calling every day..leaving messages..no response. I don't know what to do now. How do we get someone to finish our bathroom since we signed a contract. Obviously, I do not want to deal with them anymore, but I also have a cracked brand new tub they owe us for. I can't afford to just buy another new tub. What do we need to do first to get this project done. Help please!!

You can file a small claims law suit against contractor for damages and find a new one to fix.
You may have a valid criminal complaint against contractor for theft by deception.
