Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

Car Deal

I dont know how to keep this short,

but i'll try my best. Please excuse my

grammer. I recently brought a used

car from an auto dealership at the

advertised price of $8600. I had the

car financed, but before i left, the

dealer told me that if i did not want

to wait at the dealership for the

finance company to approve me i

could go home and he would call me

if anything went wrong. A couple of

days went by, he then contacts me

to tell me that i had to come back to

the dealership to sign some more

papers. I got the dealership, and he

tells me that the company financing

the car had changed and so had my

APR%. What he never told me and i

didn't realize it until i got home was

that he jacked the price to $12,600.

As i was signing the papers he was

just pointed to the places where

things had changed from the original

agreement. He never told me that

the car price had gone up.

My question is, isn't it illegal to sell a

car for more than the advertised

price? Also, can i call the financing

company to cancel the check to the

dealership if they have not already

sent it? I am supposed to take my

references, w-2 forms and pay stubs

to the dealer tomorrow.

Re: Car Deal

You have been victimized by a scam that is becoming very common. It may do no good to call the finance company, but do it anyway. Then get a lawyer to help you. There is too much at stake and too many variations on the facts that can take place to tell you what to do in a forum like this.

Speed is very important to how you will come out. Don't delay in getting a lawyer's help no matter what the dealer or the finance company tells you. It is likely that they are colaborating on this and you will be out the money if you delay.

My firm handles matters of this type. If I can be of further help to you, call or email.
