Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

Car repair issue

Auto shop should do a transmission work on my car, free of charge, because I have life time warranty. After the job was done, 3 weeks later, they said that something else needs to be fixed and the job will cost $500.00. I didn’t agree on this job, didn’t authorize to do it, didn’t sign any paper and I don’t have a writing estimation. The auto shop did the job against my will and now refuse to return my car to me until I will pay the bill for the repair, which is I didn’t agree to do it. Can they hold the car? What should I do?

Thank you very much, Irina
