Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey
Contract
I gave a $550 deposit for the hiring of a videoographer, photographer and dj for my wedding in February, 2006. I gave the deposit on 9-29-05 at a bridal show to hold the date. Now I would like to cancel 2 of the services and the company is charging me $300 to cancel those two services. I never signed a contract just gave the deposit. Is the deposit a legal binding contract. I did pay by credit card.
Please help me.
Thanks,
Cindy

Re: Contract
This is unfortunate and without a contract, most likely recoverable. I would demand, in writing your money back and adivse him that if you do not receive it you will pursue a consumer fraud compalint against him which entitles you to attorney's fees and treble damages. Hopefully he will respond, if not contact an attorney.
On a brighter note, thank goodness you learned the type of people you were dealing with before your special day. Best wishes.
