Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey
Free Auto Repair Estimate Not Free
I dropped my car off to get an estimate for repair. The toyota dealership advertised Free Estimate. My car was towed to another location. I was given an an intial and supplemental estimate of 17500 to have the car fixed.
I decided that I did not want the car fixed. The repair shop would not release the car until i paid 2500 for storage fees and work to perform the estimate.
I was shocked as I had never sign anything that gave an indication that storage fees or other fees would be charged to obtain the estimate.
Please help - I am in NJ.

Re: Free Auto Repair Estimate Not Free
You should speak with the NJ Office of Consumer Protection on Tuesday after the holiday, they are very effective in these types of situations. You can get their contact details from the NJ website: www.nj.gov, and then follow the links through the Attorney General's Office to Consumer Affairs.
If you need any further help do not hesitate to call or email me.
