do i have a right to get back a valuable gift that i gave someone

Only for some gifts. If the gift is conditional on some future event happening, then you can get it back if that event does not happen. The common examples are engagement rings, wedding gifts, and graduation presents. For those gifts, the condition is assumed from the nature of the gift. No wedding, she gives the ring back, etc.
An unqualified gift is usually considered to be unconditional and irrevocable.
