Your question raises the difference between legal title and equitable title. When someone holds title to property as an accommodation for another, there is a split between legal title and equitable title. You may acquire legal title to the car if you can prove equitable title and that your grandmother held title only as a convenience for you. Perhaps the personal representative of the estate will recognize your equitable title and will give legal title to you without a fuss. If not, you may have to enforce your rights by filing suit. You would normally do that in the County in which your grandmother resided at the time of her death. If that turns out to be too inconvenient, there may be a way to sue where the property is located. /p/ See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm.
