Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

Home Monitoring

My husband signed an agreement with CDT for home monitoring for 3 yrs. Total cost was to be $720 for 3 yrs. since we have not paid for 2-3 qtrs it has gone to collections. they are requesting 1486.00 They did not wire the house for security it was already done only put in 2 monitoring boxes. Other than effecting his credit what are the possible reprecussions? ie can he be taken to court? How far can they go.

Re: Home Monitoring

I need to know more details before I can give you a complete answer. The creditor can sue you for the balance owed and try to get a judgment. You may have claims against CDT under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act and claims against the collection agency under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you would like me to review the matter at no cost to you, please contact me at 908-213-0600 or 973-479-5814.
