The limits change State-to-State and for the federal courts. There are also different limits depending on the type of action. For a NJ civil action based on consumer fraud, the limitations period is six years. If the action is based on a sale governed by the commercial code, the limit is four years. However that may be overly simplistic since there are different events that may start or restart the running of the statute and some events or conditions may pause it. So, ask you question again with additional detail.
