Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Bad credit & collections
My ex asked me to sign a cell phone contract for his use, he had horrible credit, he promised to pay it, he never did and I am stuck with a 1000. charge in collections and bad credit. I decided to pay the bill because of interest and repairing my credit. I don't even know where he is, I do know where his family is though. Can I do anything to get my money from him?

yep. find him, demand payment, then sue him. use small claims court. for $1000.00, you really can not pay a lawyer to do just this for you. cant pay even as much as $500 (i dont know any lawyer that would charge that little) to try to get $1000.
is there anything else that this gentleman owes you for? i am thinking rent unpaid, other debts he owes you, anything else?
not an unusual situation. and not nice.
If you would like, give me a call; I am in northern New Jersey. I will be happy to discuss this with you; the telephone consultation will be free. I would NOT be able to walk you through how to file the lawsuit, that would just take too much time. Still, I might be able to help.
