Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

collection agency harrassing ex-wife

I have been divorced for 5 years and separated with a legal agreement 2 years before that. My ex-husband built up considerable debt on his own credit card and apparently has not paid on it for 3 years. Unfortunately the last address the collection agency claims they have for him (untrue) is my address which was our home and which I now own completely. They constantly call me, mail and hand deliver court notices addressed to him at my home. No matter how often I tell them he hasn't lived here for years and I do not know his current address, they do not stop. Is this legal? What can I do?

You could send them a letter via cert mail indicating that you don't want to speak with them anymore and that you will call the police if they keep contacting you. You really need to watch your credit report though and make sure that they don't come after you for the debt.
