Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

collection bill

i recently paid a bill that was in collection status totally off directly through the lender. i was told that i would receive a letter in 8 days and the info would be forwarded to the collection agency as well as the credit bureaus. to my surprise when i checked my credit report i was still reporting in collections! i contacted the lender and was told that i will report in collections for the next 7 years?!?! is this true?

Re: collection bill

If you negotiate an agreement to remove something from your credit report in return for payment in full, Please get it in writing!

The outstnding balance showing in the credit report should now be zero.

If the credit report contains inaccurate listings that are not corrected after notice, the law provides for damages and attorney fees.

Good luck to you.
