Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Collection Judgment
I recently performed a credit check and discovered that a hospital bill went to collections and a suit was brought against me. A judgment was entered against me. The judgment was about 4 years ago. Questions:
Do I need, or is it highly recommended, to hire an attorney to resolve this matter?
I am more than willing to pay this debt but is it possible to have this removed from my credit history? Or at worst, resolve it in such a way to minimize the damage on my credit history?
What can hiring an attorney do for me here? Because I did not attend the hearing in court, are the services of an attorney required?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Collection Judgment
you may get some benefit from an attorney's services, make it a condition of payment (if you can get it) that the judgment be vacated (NOT just marked as paid in the court records), and have the creditor report the account as paid and satisfied. you might be able to get this.

Re: Collection Judgment
It really depends on how much you owe and if they insist on interest, attorney's fees, etc. I handle a lot of these matters and they could be difficult sometimes. I suggest you meet with an attorney in person to discuss the case.
