Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Collection Letter received today from over 11 years ago

Today I received in my mail a collection notice for a phone that I had OVER 11 years ago. I live in NJ and was curious - This is the first time I have heard that I owe this money and what is that statue of limitations? Do they have the right to collect 11 ++ years ago. In all honesty I do not remember owing this. I am in Chapter 13 Bankruptcy but this was not amongst the list i submitted to my attorney and I do not have an additional 500 for his opinion... What do I do? Please help. Thank you!

If the debt was for personal, family or household purposes, then you have the right under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to request validation of the debt. You should send your letter to the debt collector by certified mail, return receipt requested AND by regular mail. The debt collector then has to cease all collection efforts until it provides you with the verification. Feel free to contact me if you need additional information.
