Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Credit Calling Members of My Family
I have a creditor that is calling for my ex-husband. This creditor called my 75 year old grandmother in Alabama looking for my ex-husband. How did they get her phone number? I think this is the same creditor who called my home looking for my ex-husband. I asked them how did they get my number and they told be that it has been in their database since 2003, which I knew was a lie. I just got this phone number in NJ last year when I purchased my home. My ex-husbands last known address is in NY. Why on earth are they crossing the lines and calling me and my 75 year old grandmother. Is that legal?

Re: Credit Calling Members of My Family
They have the right to call anyone about anything. What does it matter how they got your number? The more important issue is what they want from you.
Re: Credit Calling Members of My Family
They are not supposed to, if they are violating the Federa law, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and they may be in some fair trouble if you can prove it.
In any case, to stop more calls, I can write a letter that will do the trick. It is a small thing to do, so let me know if you need my assistance.
