Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
credit card debt
I was divorced approx 2 years ago.
at the time of settlement of our property. I had believed all credit card accounts were paid in full--name removed--It has been 2 yrs now and they are calling and harassing me about an account that has already been paid off--name removed--They call my job, cell and Mother's home and harrasses everyone. I also just discovered that there was another card that I didn't know about and they are now sending court information and having the police come to my new home to deliver paperwork, for court--name removed--This harrassment has started giving me the shakes, I'm sick to my stomach and I can't sleep at night--name removed--Legally what should I do. I have even faxed info to prove that it has already been paid, but one credit company told me that even though they received payment, they decided that I hadn't paid enough and re-opened my account and they are demanding that I pay them approx--name removed--1,000 more--name removed--What can I do now?

Re: credit card debt
Well you could get an attorney to help you. However, it may cost more than they want. Thus, it may not make sense to hire one.
I suggest you pull your credit report to check it for ID theft.
