More information is necessary to properly evaluate your situation. Do you own a home or any other property of value which would be in jeopardy if judgments were obtained against you? How much debt do you have? How many creditors are there? At the very least, do not ignore any lawsuits which you receive. Get help from an attorney. Depending on the situation you could try to settle these debts by way of payment plan or a reduced payoff, using the threat of bankruptcy as leverage. If bankruptcy is an appropriate consideration and you feel you cannot afford the counsel fee, you should call legal aid in your county or South Jersey Legal Services or the Rutgers Pro Bono Program to see if you qualify for a pro bono bankruptcy attorney and to evaluate if bankruptcy is even appropriate for you. Again, do not ignore lawsuits. Get help from an attorney. Call me if you would like.
Re: credit card debt
Why do you say you cannot "afford" to go bankrupt? How much do you owe? If you ignore the lawsuits you will get default judgments against you.
You should attempt to deal with this problem and not ignore it.
