Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Credit Card Judgement

I defaulted on a credit card last year and have not had any money to send. I just received a notice of a lawsuit. Is it too late to attempt to settle for less then the total debt? If so, would I contact the plaintiff's attorneys to discuss this? Would you recommend getting my own attorney for this matter, because the balance is quite large.

Re: Credit Card Judgement

If you are talking about a very large balance, then yes, I may very well make sense to get an attorney here. The way I handle these cases is I usually represent the client with regard to just the settlement and not the court. This way, it is a lot cheaper.

If you want to do this yourself, just call up the plaintiff's attorney but be careful what you say. Don't let them pressure you either into saying pay all this money by tomorrow or else. They do that all the time.

My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.
