Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Credit reports
We are members of a non profit organization that helps retarded children with Special Olympics. Special Olympics has obtained a credit report for several of our members,(not disabled persons). Is this legal and do they have a right to do this?

Re: Credit reports
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that anyone who obtains an investigative report on a consumer's credit certify to the reporting agency that the request was made with the consumer's knowledge and consent. There are civil penalties for violations.
Depending on how the report was obtained, there may be other violatons.
