Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

My daughter received a small claims summons for a doctors bill, for services rendered when she was 17 years on 4/09. She turned 18 in Nov. 09. Being that she was a minor at the time, can she be held responsible now that she is 18?

Minors are liable in contract for the "necessaries of life". Medical care fits in this category unless the services were cosmetic or otherwise not essential. In addition, parents are liable for the medical care of their minor children. I am surprised that the complaint doesn't name both. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
