Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Help in Debt Management

I'm on an F-1 Visa and have taken money from some people to whom I gave a written note stating the amount of money taken. I currently dont have the money and cannot repay the amount I owe. This people plan to sue me for the money I've taken. I dont know have much idea about the legal procedures, dont have much time and limited on financial resources and wondering a way out. What's the maximum trouble they can get me into, can I be deported, will that come up as a criminal record? Please advise. How much will legal matters cost me?

They can sue you for not paying the loan. The suit would be in civil court, not criminal. You wont't have criminal charges and I don't know of any reason why a civil suit such as this would lead to deportation. If you are truly worried about the civil suit, you should try to come to some repayment terms with them or seek the advice of an attorney. You can reach me at 732-545-9292

From the limited information you have provided, your liability appears to be a civil one and not a criminal one. Moreover, while you may want to seek advice from an immigration lawyer, I strongly doubt that deportation would be a consequence of not being able to repay one or more loans. The options available to you vary, and may include settling for less than what is owed and paying the discounted amounts over a specified period of time, or perhaps other debt management methods. If you would like to discuss further, you may contact my office at (973) 664-1090.
