Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Effort to pay
I am unemployed and owe credit card debt. Being unable to find a job, I enrolled in college. I wrote letters to my creditors explaining my situation and told them that I would make a payment on time but I couldn't afford the minimum payment. I told them that as my financial picture improved I would send more. I have been sending each of them money every month. They have been calling me at all hours of day and night and told me that the phone calls would not stop until I make minimum payments. I explained the situation again and they said if I have a phone then I can make the minimum payments. I am trying the best I can. How can I stop the harassment? They are threatening to send me to court. Can they if I am making an attempt to pay and on time? Please advise. Thank you.

Re: Effort to pay
You might want to consider filing for bankruptcy relief to discharge your dischargeable debt, including your credit card debt, stay/enjoin creditor harassment including calls, letters and suits, and obtain a fresh start. Feel free to contact my office in this regard - (973) 664-1090.
