Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

should you hire a lawyer to help you with debt settlement of credit cards or is a debt settlement company god enough to handle this?

I handle collection agencies, but not debt settlement, so I can't speak as to what an attorney can do. However, there was a report on TV today (CNN?) about how DSC's mostly rip people off. I would google any DSC you are thinking of dealing with.
