Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Hospital collections

I wanted to know if there was something like a "statute of limitations", or a time limit on how long they can bill on a past due bill? Regarding a hospital bill, Can they sue you for nonpayment? Or will they be able to bill you indefinately? WHat happens when you can't pay a hospital bill? Thank you for any help you can give to me.

Re: Hospital collections

The general rule with regard to the statute of limitations for any bill of this type is 6 years. That means that if they have not sued you to recover prior to six years after the date the bill was incurred or within 6 years after your last payment, they would be barred from recovery. There may be some exceptions to this and I would be glad to discuss this with you if you want to call me at 856-546-8010. Good luck!
