Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Insurance surcharge judgment defense

I recently recieved a notice from the L.D.C. agency on behalf of The state of NJ concerning payment of a judgement for unpaid insurance surcharge payments on my record for offenses in the early 1990's. They seek 14k ($530 per month), and just have begun calling my house this week. Their collection efforts have been sudden and forcefull. Their letter claims they will go after my wages if I do not take action on this matter. My questions are: Can you recommend an attorney that could advise me in this matter? Can the collection agency--name removed--bargained with for a reduced pay-off amount? Is their any defense at all on this position? Will this judgment ever expire? I live in Florida for the past 14 years and have not been in NJ, but would like to hire an attorney there from here where I live. Any help would--name removed--much appreciated, Best Regards, --name removed---name removed--

Re: Insurance surcharge judgment defense

1. Have them send you a copy of the judgment.

2. Until the NJ judgment is domesticated in Fl. they cannot do anything.

3. Yes, you should be able to negotiate with them.
