Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Joint vs. Indivdual Debt
My wife is running up high credit card bills on cards that are held jointly. Is there any advantage to having her get cards in her name only? Are H/W jointly responsible for the debts, even if incurred individually?

If both of you signed the application, you're both (each) responsible.
Often a credit card company will ask you to name additionalcardholders, but only you signed the agreement, so only you would then be responsible.
If both parties signed the agreement, EACH party is responsible forthe total no matter which of you incurred the debt, ... well, that'sthe norm, anyway, but it isn't always true. The agreement itself maysay otherwise and your state law may also modify that.
