Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Judgement Filed for unpaid Credit Card bill

I was contacted by a law firm regarding an old Credit card bill from 2005 for $2200. During this time I was unemployed for about a year and half. I was unable to pay any of my bills. I have started to clear up some of them but I am not making enough to pay everything. Should I settle with them and make payments to avoid being dragged into court and getting a judgement on my credit report. What is the best way to proceed.

Thank you.

Re: Judgement Filed for unpaid Credit Card bill

Normally I would say go get an attorney to help you. However, I can't see an attorney taking this for such an amount that it would be worth it for you, but that's just my opinion. You may want to contact Mr. Davies to see how much we would charge. All I know is for a $2200 bill, you could probably settle that for under $1000 yourself, so what do you need an attorney for?

I would start at about 1/3 or a little less and work your way up through there. You have to play hard ball with them and stick to your guns as much as possible.

I have recently helped three people who were unable to make a satisfactory deal with the credit card companies. Sometimes it takes a lawyer to make them be reasonable.
