Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Judgement question
I am working with a debt settlement group for credit card debt. To make an extremely long story short this debt collection agency hired a lawyer in my state to sue me. They received a judgement against me because I was told by two negotiators from my debt settlement group to HOLD OFF on filling out interrogatory questions and wait for a possible settlement. A judge has now signed a judgment against me(I found out when I attended my court date that the case was canceled the night before). My question is how fast can this NJ court act on this judgement? I filed a motion to reinstate my Interrogatories and am worried that my checking account will be frozen and my pay will be garnished before this ever reaches the judge. I am severing ties with this debt settlement group and searching for an attorney to help me.

Re: Judgement question
I was getting worried until I read the last part of your question. You need a lawyer ASAP. I'd be more than happy to help you.
To answer your question, the next step will be to try to get the money out of you one way or the other. One of the ways they do that is to file a levy on your checking account. When they do that, it will freeze your account but they won't "turn over" the money until they file a turn over motion. That will take some time, but you'll be without the money in your account.
