judgement & wage garnishment

Does the defendant have the right to any contracts or recepits of a debt to which the plaintiff says the defendant owes? should the plainitff have this information on them?

your question is not very clear. if you are being sued because someone or some company thinks you owe money, it would be a smart idea to hire an attorney. if you have to go to court to defend yourself, you will be at a huge disadvantage if you have no lawyer.

the plaintiff does have to prove that the money is owed, before the judge will make a decision that the money is in fact owed.
