Lean on home

Someone is threatening to put a lean on my home. Can I transfer the tillte to my brother name before the lean goes into effect. Will this get me into more trouble?

Thank you

Re: Lean on home

As Kevin stated, you do not provide enough information for a good answer. Is this related to improvements made to your home (called a "mechanic's lean")?

Please call me to discuss further.

Re: Lean on home

You do not give enough information, but there are very few circumstances where someone can put a lien on your house (past due taxes, sewer, water, maybe utilities...). A judgement is not a lien, but if you want to sel or refinance your home, you will likely need to resolve any existing judgments. If this is a collections company, what they are doing is illegal. Record them saying whatever they are saying, including that they will file a lien on your house, question them about that, until you are sure you have them saying you pay or they will file a lien (only 1 party needs to consent to record a phone conversation in NJ), then send a copy to the Attorney General's office with a letter demanding they take action for violation of state and federal laws.
