Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Levy granted but never received letter payment fulfilled
After a very nasty process with a collection agency for Bank of America, a levy was granted against my account. It is now over 6 months since they've got the money, but I never received a letter that the debt is resolved and it still shows on my credit report. The collection agency did alot of thing I think weren't legal like not notifying me of court actions, but I could not afford an attorney so I had no recourse. I just want a letter stating the debt is paid and the debt showed paid on my credit report. (I now have new legal problems because the levy took money that wasn't mine out of my account, I had money in my accont that was an error from an employer's overpayment, do I have any rights over that?) Aren't they suppose to send me a letter stating the debt is paid?

Re: Levy granted but never received letter payment fulfilled
As to getting the levy on your account finished up: It sounds like you have tried but can not get them to take the last step.
I can help you to wrap up this part of the mess; they are required to do it, but it sounds like a nasty letter from a lawyer might do it, and I can take other action if that does not do it. It may cost you a couple of hundred dollars to force them to finish this, but it might be the only way to get it done.
Overpayment from the employer: I would need a lot more information to be able to say anything at all about this.
