Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Loan Repayment over 6 years old

A friend wrote me a check back in Jan of 2003 and has now passed away.

His sister going through his bank statements found the check. She is claiming it was a loan and I have to repay it within 30 days to the trust of his children. No where on the check does it state it was a loan to be repaid.

She has also written my Mother a letter.

Does the statue run out in 6 years? Should I refer her to the FDCPA or does that only apply to companies?

Even if you do that, I'm not sure it will stop them. At some point, you may need an attorney. Getting one now or later is your option and there are pros and cons to both. Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss.
